Delhi-NCR witnessed another day of severe pollution on Saturday, wherein the air quality level fell into the ‘severe plus’ category, posing a serious threat to public health. According to the Air Quality Tracker, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi at 7 am was recorded at 447, which was very dangerous. Many monitoring stations recorded AQI levels above 500, pushing the pollution level into the ‘severe plus’ zone, where the air becomes unfit for breathing.

Reportedly, GRAP III implemented in Delhi from November 11 is not having any significant effect on the AQI. On Saturday morning, the AQI has reached 439, which is in the hazardous category. According to experts, this level is so dangerous as if a person is smoking about 11 cigarettes in a day.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the air quality is extremely dangerous. It has now exceeded severe levels. This is largely due to PM2.5 levels reaching 294 micrograms and PM10 levels reaching 390 micrograms. According to the board, the air quality is unlikely to improve for the next three to four days.

Furthermore, according to the Pollution Control Board, the wind speed may improve after November 27-28, which can push polluted air. Their normal speed may exceed 10-15 km per hour, which is capable of pushing polluted particles. There is no forecast of rain, so complete relief is expected by the first week of December.
