Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present in the birth centenary celebrations in Hyderabad in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh, on Wednesday, and he shared the platform with former Miss World and an alumnus of the Sathya Sai Bal Vikas scheme Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. There were also several leading leaders and personalities such as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, his deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, R. J. Rathnakar, the managing trustee of the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust.
In his address at the centenary celebration, PM Modi said the centenary had been more of a divine blessing than a festival. He pointed out that even though Sri Sathya Sai Baba has been physically gone, his teachings, love and service spirit remain to inform millions of people. Modi emphasized the Indian civilization and explained that the spirit of this civilization is based on the concept of Siva- selfless service which is the basis of harmonious and meaningful life.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was also present at the event and she talked about her personal experience with Sai Baba in the Bal Vikas program. She talked of the eternal applicability of the teachings of the Guru, how his wisdom and love keep inspiring people even a hundred years later in the world. Bachchan emphasized the philosophy of the Five Ds of Sathya Sai Baba, which was Discipline, Dedication, Devotion, Determination, and Discrimination, and emphasized them as necessary elements of living a meaningful and spiritually-grounded life.
The actress also emphasized the universal values that were advanced by Sai Baba and said, that there is just one caste, the caste of humanity. It has a single religion, the religion of love. The language of the heart is just one and there is just one God and He is omnipresent. The significance of her comments is that the message of unity, compassion and service given by Sai Baba is always relevant.
