On Wednesday, BJP leader, Dilip Ghosh, was very confident about his party in the coming West Bengal Assembly elections, which is set to take place in 2026. Ghosh made claims to the media that their party is ready; they are the prime opposition here, and they are ready to remove TMC. We have a strong alliance and by this month we will have completed preparations of the elections. His comments emphasize the will of the BJP to contest the Trinamool Congress (TMC) that is ruling the state, in the upcoming polls, and establish its base throughout the state.
Ghosh also addressed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process that was still going on in West Bengal and its importance in making the electoral process to be transparent. The West Bengal has experienced a lot of attention surrounding SIR. Everything is under scrutiny by the Election Commission and it is making efforts to carry out elections in an appropriate way. The SIR is actively involved in people of the state, he said.
Sir was a wholesome initiative of the Election Commission of India to revise the voter lists in all the 294 assembly constituencies in the state of West Bengal. More than 80,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are undertaking house-to-house visits to confirm and refresh the voter information and the process will be repeated till December 4. The 659 helpdesks established throughout the state are aimed at helping the voters.
The exercise is included in the second part of the Special Intensive Revision which is underway in nine states and three Union Territories and is dealing with an electorate of around 51 crore people. The SIR is implemented in other states other than West Bengal in Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.
The Enumeration Period started on November 4 and BLOs are sending single, partially pre-filled Enumeration Forms (EFs) to all electors. The households will be approached at least three times so that the forms could be distributed and collected.
